For your novel, Dad?
I don't normally repost links, but this seriously amused me: statistical analysis on the relation between homosexuals and natural disasters, in response to Pat Robertson. From [info]bulby01. I do like the idea of a religion that starts with the axiom that natural disasters are created by god and determines the rest of its beliefs by statistical analysis of this sort.

Wouldn't such a religion just decide that it's very sinful to live on fault lines or coastal plains below sea level?

Which would arguably be more productive than some religions. ^_^

Ah, that article made me laugh.

In the novel I probably won't finish until I'm 30, the protagonist is a goddess of bad weather, her best friend is a volcano god, and she accidentally bestows some interesting weather-controlling powers on a mortal, so basically the main characters can and often do create natural disasters for shits'n'giggles. There's no real correlation with homosexuals though - the mortal's sister is a lesbian, but that's about it, and she never gets slammed with fag-hatin' hurricanes. The gods/mortals-with-powers do go after specific people or areas if they feel they have good reasons for it, but they're mainly people like bullies, pedophiles, wacko fundamentalists, etc.

Now I'm tempted to write a scene where a town amps up its natural disaster defenses by sending Baptists to Alaska or starting new gay groups.

That link _definitely_ has a place in my novel. Thanks
