Woah.
Just saw a hawk with a dead rat land on the top of the hallway between 2 and 14 from the 2-3 athena cluster. There's something you don't see every pset.

Look for a nest. There's at least one nesting pair that hangs out around MIT; last year, they were right outside a window in tech square. They put a webcam on the nest, it was awesome.

I remember hearing about the nest before, but I didn't remember where it was or if they were still around.

There are lots of Red Tailed hawks in Cambridge. I remember seeing them land on buildings over 10 years ago. I was at a meeting once in Fresh Pond and one landed on the balcony outside the conference room window.

I spent 2 months this summer building a timberframe barn on my property in Wellesley. If you recall every day was as glorious as the next. From July 15 to Sept 15 it never rained and we were treated to the escapades of 4 Red Tails: 1 adult and 3 juveniles. I live on a hill and the hawks would spend most of the day soaring about 1500 feet above my house. Only one time we saw a hawk dive for prey. We don't have rats in Wellesley, (well we do but they drive Volvos) so they aim for squirrels and sometimes get them. I have had hawks fly less than 10 feet above my head and I never heard them. The crows also spend a lot of time chasing and attacking the hawks. I have seen them fly right through the hawk's wings and disrupt their airflow.
